Objective time is a linguistic means that allows for the meaningful structuring of the natural and social environment, thereby enabling orientation for action. Subjective time is a linguistic means that allows for the expression of one’s inner state in relation to external circumstances, thereby providing a basis for the motivation to act. Time has no „location“ because it corresponds to no object that transcends consciousness and is accessible to sensory experience. It is a purely linguistic concept rendered intelligible through its transformation into spatial metaphors. What time is cannot be indicated by demonstration, but only by talking about it.
