Mortality
Dying is one of the conditions of human existence: life entails coming into being and passing away at every moment – meaning that, at any given instant, a part of us fades away while simultaneously being regenerated. If this interplay shifts to the detriment of regeneration, the human being ages; if it shifts to the detriment of the process of passing away, the individual develops cancer. Though finitude is a temporal concept, it essentially expresses the fact that the variable interplay between passing away and coming into being inevitably reaches an irreversible tipping point – a „point of no return“ – that brings the process to an end.
